Council amends waterline contract, awards bike‑path repair bid

City staff explained that adding replacement of lines on 500 East and constructing a new 12‑inch line on Cove View Road will improve redundancy, fire flow and water quality. Kyler Nielsen said environmental clearances were completed for the added scope. The amendment increases the Jones & DeMille contract by $58,200 — from the original $238,000 to $296,200 — and staff reported sufficient funding is available. The council approved the amendment by unanimous roll call (Yes = 4).
Public Works Director Keith Mogan presented two bids for repair of the bike/walking path from Main Street to 300 West under a $69,400 UORG grant. Bids were C&M Sealcoating, LLC — $60,900, and Brazell Contracting — $54,272 (which includes a seal coat). Mogan recommended Brazell Contracting to provide a protective seal coat; the council awarded the work to Brazell Contracting (motion carried unanimous roll call: Yes = 4). Mogan said the city will trim trees before the contractor begins work.
Both actions were approved by the four voting members present; one councilmember was excused. The waterline amendment is tied to a Rural Development‑funded project and includes design and construction management services and easement work for the added scope.
