The Town of Long Beach Council authorized solicitation of quotes for a new salt barn at the maintenance garage on Karwick Road, including demolition of the existing structure, with a budget cap not to exceed $180,000. Council President Joy Schmitt made the motion; Colleen Wall Lane seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier in unfinished business, Kendra Bartlett moved to authorize up to $5,000 to hire Steve Thate (Schneider) to perform a boundary/survey for a proposed town sign near Chastleton Drive. The council discussed alternatives and approved the motion.
Town Administrator and Police Chief Mark Swistek briefed the council on progress for Lake Shore Drive paving. Haas Engineering reported most field work is complete; an internal preliminary engineering draft is expected in mid-to-late March. Officials recommended holding a public workshop in early April to gather community input on refined plans before finalizing Phase 1 preliminary design. The engineering timeline presented calls for Phase 1 final design from May 1 through June 30, with a grant application submission deadline of July 31.
Council members framed the salt-barn solicitation as part of the five-year capital plan reviewed by the Budget & Finance committee, which also discussed equipment needs including a street sweeper and an F-550 truck. The minutes do not include contractor names or bid timelines for the salt barn solicitation.
