Silver Creek Township appointed Andy Christensen to a vacant supervisor seat and completed leadership assignments at its Sept. 3 meeting. The board acted after discussing the resignation of Chris Newman and motions to fill the seat.
The action began when Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen moved to fill the vacant seat; Supervisor Ryan Nelson seconded the motion, which the board carried 3-0, and Andy Christensen was sworn in as a township supervisor. The minutes record that Supervisor Sandy Forsman was absent.
Later in the meeting, Geyen moved to assign Mike Helman as chairman; Supervisor Andy Christensen seconded the motion. According to the minutes, Chairman Helman abstained from that vote and the motion carried with three votes in favor. Helman then moved to assign Geyen as vice chairman; Supervisor Ryan Nelson seconded. The record shows Geyen abstained from the vice-chair vote and the motion carried.
Why it matters: leadership continuity affects who sets meeting agendas, speaks for the board and oversees township operations. The board scheduled its next substantial discussion of projects and the budget for Oct. 1.
The meeting record includes routine approvals and administrative business; there were no contested outcomes reported on the leadership motions beyond the recorded abstentions.
