Board approves Turning Point USA chapter at Mogollon High School
Summary
After a site-council review and assurances of political neutrality and a faculty sponsor, the Heber-Overgaard board approved a Turning Point USA chapter at Mogollon High School for grades 9–12.
Three Mogollon High School students asked the Governing Board on March 17 to allow a Turning Point USA chapter at the school for grades 9–12. Principal Reed Porter said the site council reviewed the proposal and flagged potential political divisiveness but emphasized that an approved club must remain politically neutral and follow district expectations. Jonathan Crandell agreed to serve as faculty sponsor.
The board voted to approve the club after receiving supporting documentation (site council minutes, proposed bylaws and a list of interested students) in the board packet. The motion to establish the TPUSA chapter was made by Pattie Weber, seconded by John Piva, and carried unanimously.
School leaders said the club will be held to district rules on student organizations and must remain nonpartisan during school activities.
