The Hay Springs School District Board of Education voted 6-0 on Feb. 4 to interview three candidates — identified as B, D and F — for the district’s superintendent position.
President J. Anderson called the special meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. in the school cafeteria, led the Pledge of Allegiance and stated that the meeting notice had been published in the Sheridan County Journal Star and on the district website the week of Jan. 28, 2026. Roll call showed J. Anderson, D. Russell, K. Stock, M. Kearns, K. Hughbanks and T. Milne present.
The board set the superintendent interview process as the primary agenda item. Board member K. Stock moved to approve the agenda; board member M. Kearns seconded and the motion passed on a 6-0 roll-call vote.
There were no public comments during the allotted public-comment period.
Board member D. Russell moved, and K. Hughbanks seconded, a motion to enter executive session; the board voted 6-0 and President J. Anderson declared the board in executive session at 7:00 p.m. The board returned to open session after a separate motion by D. Russell, seconded by K. Stock; President J. Anderson announced the board was out of executive session at 8:01 p.m.
After returning to open session, board member K. Stock moved and K. Hughbanks seconded a motion to interview candidates B, D and F for the superintendent position. The motion passed on a 6-0 roll-call vote.
President J. Anderson adjourned the meeting at 8:27 p.m.
