Hay Springs school board approves payables, recognizes teachers' negotiation authority and OKs elevator alarm bid

President J. Anderson called the Hay Springs School District Board of Education to order at 6:33 p.m. on Sept. 8 in the Hay Springs Public School cafeteria and the board approved a set of routine and safety-related actions.
The board unanimously approved the Aug. 11, 2025 meeting minutes after a motion from D. Russell, seconded by K. Stock. On a motion by M. Kearns, seconded by D. Russell, the board then approved the August ending financial account summaries and authorized September payables totaling $120,135.38 and payroll liabilities of $255,608.88; both votes passed 6-0 on roll call.
The board also voted 6-0 to recognize the Hay Springs Teacher Association as the formal negotiation authority for Hay Springs certified staff after a motion from D. Russell, seconded by K. Hughbanks.
Following an agenda amendment to add a facility bid, the board approved a $6,709.03 bid from Protex Central to replace the elevator fire alarm panel. D. Russell moved to accept the bid and M. Kearns seconded; the motion passed on a 6-0 roll-call vote.
Administrators listed for the meeting included Mr. Clear (superintendent), Mrs. Digmann (principal), Mrs. Marcy (activities director), Mr. Reimann (technology coordinator) and Mrs. Wolken (business manager). The board noted several discussion items on the agenda — including a "Lister Sage" item, a "Beef to Lunch" item, Finance Committee matters and budget information — and flagged the need to set a Tax Request and Levy Hearing date and a public forum in October.
The board announced upcoming dates: a Tax Request and Levy Hearing on Sept. 24, 2025, and the next regular board meeting on Oct. 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. President J. Anderson adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m.
