At their July 9 meeting in Clermont, Tree Allies members organized a subcommittee to build a parade float for the town parade on Sept. 20 and discussed outreach plans to promote tree education and the group's October Fall Tree Sale.
Members proposed a papier‑mâché tree with attached signs and leaves, handing out "tree‑ts" (goodie bags) and coloring pages to engage younger residents, and producing Tree Allies T‑shirts for volunteers. Heidi Boyle said she will contact Mallory to coordinate volunteer planning and materials; Mike Beam reported that a small budget exists to cover parade materials including candy.
The parade begins at Spirit of Life church; members plan to staff a table at Lion's Park after the procession to distribute coloring pages and information about the Fall Tree Sale. On the sale, Mike Beam said he has spoken with the vendor and expects a list of available tree varieties by Aug. 15 to prepare for an October sale and pick‑up schedule.
On outreach tied to other town events, members discussed the Fish Fry, with Mike saying the event needs a banner, tablecloth and kid‑oriented giveaways. Bernie Denning and Mike Beam agreed to work together on handouts. Linda Straub asked that the Tree Allies newsletter be included in the town newsletter, but members noted inclusion in the July town newsletter was not possible.
The group recorded volunteer assignments and next steps but did not record formal votes on the outreach plans during the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
