Maintenance updates, grant receipts and property complaints top Silver Creek Township meeting

At the Nov. 7 meeting Silver Creek Township maintenance reported that the county has approved an extension for remaining grant funds related to the 134th Street culvert replacement; a contractor will be contacted to determine an expected completion date. The board recorded receipt of a county grant payment of $37,259.18 for the Gowan Ave project.
Maintenance announced the township will host a maintenance meeting in early 2025. Supervisors discussed fleet needs: a new truck is expected to arrive in December or January. Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to authorize up to $500 to buy new tires for the current truck; that motion died and no expenditure was approved. Supervisor Andy Christensen said he may be able to donate a set of wheels and tires to get the township through until the new vehicle arrives.
The board also recorded several resident complaints and directed follow-up: a downtown dog-running-at-large complaint (the resident will provide the owner’s address and the board will send a copy of the dog ordinance), a complaint about accumulation of cars at a property on 121st Street, and a separate complaint about tires and junk on a neighboring property on 114th Street. In each property case maintenance will obtain photographs and a letter plus a copy of the applicable ordinance will be sent to the property owner.
Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen reported that West Central collected 18.95 tons of recyclable materials from the township in October and that the township has received resident complaints that recycling carts were not emptied on multiple occasions. Paumen also reported that a MATIT workers' compensation policy was circulated to supervisors for review and a premium of $7,580.00 will be paid at the end of the month.
The board recessed for the Board of Canvass and later adjourned.
