Shorewood’s Arctic Fever set for Jan. 17 with indoor activities and community contests

Parks and Recreation Manager Czech told the Shorewood Park Commission on Jan. 14 that Arctic Fever will take place Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the SCEC. Because of a lack of snow this winter, organizers canceled the traditional outdoor Freeman Park activities and shifted to an indoor-focused program.
Czech said the City secured Lucky’s Station as the title sponsor; Bolton & Menk and Excelsior American Legion Post 259 are Gold-level sponsors, and Mediacom and New Horizon Academy are Bronze-level sponsors. The City is running a coloring contest; submissions will be displayed at the event and attendees can vote for their favorite entry. The City also introduced a "Name a Snowplow" contest with entries accepted only at Arctic Fever and online voting for contest winners scheduled from Jan. 20 through Jan. 31, 2025. The snowplow contest winner will have a photo opportunity and a ride in the plow.
Czech noted the City partnered with Minnetonka Community Ed for a family chase element that could not proceed outdoors and that the City of Tonka Bay will host related activities Jan. 18 at Country Club Lanes. In staff updates, Czech also reported the Council approved a Field Use Policy at its Jan. 13 meeting and that the City’s warming houses are up and running.
The Commission did not take any votes related to Arctic Fever at the meeting. The Commission adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
