Silver Creek Township approves up to $15,000 for tree trimming; culvert motion fails on liability tie

Silver Creek Township's Board of Supervisors voted to approve tree‑trimming work by Carr's Tree Service for up to $15,000 during its Oct. 1, 2024 meeting. The board considered a proposal to lower the Baker Avenue culvert to modify drainage. Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to complete the culvert lowering as needed and to have the township attorney address liability concerns; Chairman Mike Helman seconded. The motion resulted in a 2-2 tie and did not carry after Vice Chairman Geyen voiced concerns that altering flow could create liability for the township.
Other maintenance items: the board tabled replacement of tires on the township Chevrolet 1500 while it considers replacing the vehicle, and discussed budgeting a hydraulic study for 2025; trustees said they will gather estimates for that study, which was described as intended to remain valid for about five years once completed.
No amendments or alternatives to the tree‑trimming approval were recorded. The board's vote on the culvert project produced no formal direction to proceed; the item may return when liability questions and engineering estimates have been clarified.
