Karehe Park construction underway; phase 1 demolition under way, completion targeted for December

City staff updated the Cudahy City Council on construction progress at Karehe Park, saying Phase 1 demolition and grading began after a May 11 groundbreaking and that work is scheduled to continue through grading, underground utilities, concrete structures, amenities and landscaping, with project completion targeted for December.
Project staff said the work initially scheduled for this week to remove and reinstall the concrete plaza between City Hall and Bedwell was postponed by one week to avoid interfering with a county election; the library’s drop box was temporarily relocated and adjacent residents and properties on Santa Ana, Cecilia, Fastoria, Wilcox and Park Street received hand‑delivered notices.
Council members thanked staff for the notifications and speed of work. Staff said they will return with updates as the project proceeds.
The city asked residents to use posted signs and provided on‑site notices for details about temporary access and detours during plaza demolition.
