Vernon Center council approves agenda, consent items, two resolutions and routine payments

The Vernon Center city council conducted routine administrative business and approved several resolutions and payments during the meeting.
Councilors approved the revised agenda after item relocations and additions were requested by the mayor and the public works supervisor. The consent agenda — including meeting minutes (1/14/2025 and 1/28/2025), check reconciliations, December capital funds and cash balance reports, and various monthly reports — was approved after Clerk Kara Hansen corrected a typo in the 1/28/2025 minutes (amount changed from $210,00 to $210,000) and updated the SSS Financing list to reflect Peterson Motor Grader’s involvement at 204 Main St E. Motions passed unanimously.
Clerk Hansen presented Resolution 2025-08, described as a funds transfer to fix a negative balance in fund 601 and recommended by Burkhardt & Burkhardt as a journal entry; the council approved the resolution on a motion by Councilor Lisa Peterson, seconded by Councilor Emily Edwards. The council also approved the Minnesota Public Facilities Accounting (PFA) bond payment of $2,565.00 required for bond servicing; Clerk Hansen said a motion was needed to process that payment and the motion carried.
On the parcel-split matter, Clerk Hansen reported consultation with Blue Earth County and Burkhardt & Burkhardt on how to document assessment splits. Residents Vickie Wiederhoeft and Karen Lachmiller asked whether the resolution would allow them to finalize a sale; the council approved Resolution 2025-09 (Assessment Split at 301 and 303 Main St E) on a motion by Councilor Lisa Peterson and a second by Councilor Wendy Bennett.
The council also approved a motion permitting Public Works Supervisor Mark Willette to drive the city pickup to and from home while his personal vehicle is repaired. The meeting adjourned at 7:16 PM.
