Heber-Overgaard board approves senior trip to Orlando, adopts 2026–27 calendar and vehicle-use policy

The Heber-Overgaard Unified School District No. 6 governing board on Feb. 10 approved a senior-class trip to Orlando, finalized a preliminary 2026–27 school calendar and adopted a new district vehicle-use policy that requires monthly odometer logs.
Senior Class President Miles Martineau proposed a May 18–21, 2026 trip for roughly 40 students and said the class has already raised $33,000 toward the travel costs. Mrs. Wendy Hall moved to approve the trip, and Mrs. Pattie Weber seconded; the board approved the proposal as presented.
Why it matters: approval clears logistical and liability questions for students and chaperones and preserves class fundraising commitments. The trip will be chaperoned by district-affiliated adults Martineau named at the meeting.
The board also voted to adopt a preliminary 2026–27 school calendar that sets the first student day as Aug. 5, 2026, provides 150 student days and includes six professional-development days, two of which precede the start of school. Mrs. Hall said the draft aligns Spring Break with the Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) schedule; Mr. John Piva seconded the motion and it passed without objection.
In a separate vote, the board enacted a District Transportation Request & Vehicle Use Policy requiring monthly odometer logs for district vehicles not used for specific student trips, including those assigned to maintenance, grounds and district-office staff. Business Manager Andrea Despain said the Auditor General now requires odometer documentation for such vehicles; Mrs. Hall moved to adopt the policy and Mrs. Weber seconded.
The votes were recorded as routine motions on the regular agenda. The meeting concluded at 7:59 p.m.; the next regular board meeting is scheduled for March 17, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Capps Middle School.
