Paoli police seek replacement body armor; chief notes staffing changes

Paoli Police Chief Randy Sanders told the council on Oct. 7 that three officers’ body armor is expiring this year and that the department had applied for a federal matching program that would cover 50% of replacement costs but, as of September, the program had not opened.
Chief Sanders presented a quote from Siegels Uniforms for $4,995 to replace the expiring body armor and asked that the purchase be paid from LIT funds; the council approved the expenditure 5-0.
In personnel notes, Sanders said one officer has applied to the 90th Recruit Academy Class for the Indiana State Police and, if accepted, would leave sometime next year. Senior Officer Josh Babcock has accepted another job and his last day with the town will be Oct. 30, 2025; Chief Sanders expressed gratitude for Babcock’s service.
Sanders also mentioned a Wal‑Mart grant opportunity for the department but did not specify whether staff would prepare the application during the meeting.
