Board appoints Ben Robinson as JH/HS athletic director after internal-candidate motion fails

During public comment before consideration of the agenda items, a member of the community, Cash Tenney, urged the board to “give preference to full-time, in-house, qualified candidates before considering outside applicants,” arguing that an internal-first hiring philosophy supports staff retention and district culture.
Board member John Piva moved to appoint Josh Edwards to the position as recommended by the hiring committee. The motion received no second and therefore did not proceed. Craig Blackburn then moved to appoint Ben Robinson; Wendy Hall seconded, and the motion carried.
The record shows the board handled the item in accordance with its stated procedure: the first motion died for lack of a second, after which the second candidate’s appointment moved forward.
