Skyline approves treasurer's report, okays tree removal and other public-works steps

The council received and approved the June 2024 treasurer's report. Treasurer Lon Whitehead reported total receipts of $36,983.69 for June, total payables of $196,928.93, and a total fund balance of $1,138,350.89. The Water Tower/Pump House construction-project balance was recorded at $438,871.11. Shirley Piepho moved and Steve Romnes seconded approval of the treasurer's report and payment of bills; the motion passed unanimously.

On streets and public-works items, Councilmember Eric Manske said Allied Blacktop's assessment concluded the road damage is cosmetic rather than structural. He reported a delivery quote of $800 to bring crushed Cambria (Class 5) rock to the water-tower access road and that he would follow up on spreading costs.

The council approved an additional $3,050 to remove a pine tree in Moran Park and to remove additional trees and brush at the water-tower site and adjacent ravine; Steve Romnes moved, Shirley Piepho seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Eric Manske will contract the tree service and schedule the work. Separately, Eric reported a tree-trimming quote of $2,580 and recommended establishing a recurring trimming schedule to avoid larger costs in the future.

Parks staff reported a plan to try a non-toxic weed-control option for playground sand in Vetter Park; Public Safety planning for a fall "Nite to Unite" event is under way. The Pump House project had no new updates at the meeting; on the water-tower/monopole project, Mayor Attarian will follow up with AT&T about their progress.
