Staff said the county will provide up to $350,000 for the on-demand FlexRide service and that the city acts only as the contract administrator. "The total amount of funds that Waukesha County would provide would be up to $350,000 for this year," staff said. The city’s administrative portion for 2026 is included in the overall administrative fee and was identified as $96,000.
Why it matters: FlexRide is an on-demand service that serves portions of Milwaukee and eastern Waukesha County, intended to connect residents to employment centers in areas such as Butler and Menomonee Falls. Commission members pressed staff for geographic clarification during discussion; staff confirmed the service is for City of Milwaukee residents traveling to employment areas in eastern Waukesha and southern Milwaukee County and does not directly change Waukesha City fixed-route service patterns.
Commissioner Joe Piper moved to approve the contract and a commissioner seconded. Commissioners recorded aye votes and the motion passed.
Next steps: Staff will continue to administer the contract with Mobilize as the operating partner under Waukesha County’s funding; no additional city funds were pledged for the service in the discussion recorded at the meeting.
