Board approves Fire Station 1 boiler change order after DOE stop order and code updates

The Waukesha City Board of Public Works approved a change order for the Fire Station 1 boiler replacement project after staff described federal and code-driven delays and a small required modification.
Staff said the project was bid last January but was delayed when the Department of Energy issued a stop order during a federal administrative transition. After the project was released later in the year, staff reported building-code changes required an exhaust venting modification, which added $2,450 to the project scope.
"The requirement was to add that at $2,450," City staff said in explaining the change order. The staff presentation directed technical questions to a named city staffer present (Brandon) for further detail.
A committee member moved to approve the change order and the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said the change is limited to the venting modification tied to code updates and that the project had otherwise proceeded to finalization after the DOE stop order was released.
The item appeared as Item 5C on the Jan. 22 agenda.
