The Waukesha City Board of Public Works on Jan. 22 voted to approve a not-to-exceed $20,000 contract amendment with engineering firm Strand to provide ongoing assistance to the Clean Water Plant.
City staff said the amendment covers engineering specialty work the city cannot perform in-house, such as SCADA adjustments and systems analysis. Staff noted the city spent about $18,000 on similar services from the firm the prior year and that most work in the past year was performed remotely but staffers do come onsite when needed.
During discussion a committee member asked what SCADA stands for; staff explained it is "Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition," a computer-based system the city uses to monitor pumps, tank levels and other plant processes. Staff added that the firm has previously completed large improvement projects for the city and is a familiar technical resource.
A committee member moved to approve the amendment, a second was recorded, and the board voted by voice and carried the motion. The amendment is intended to provide up-to-$20,000 of technical engineering support as needs arise rather than as a standing, continuous service contract.
