Litchfield planning staff to present PA25-1 zoning changes July 20; public hearing set for Aug. 17

Litchfield’s Planning and Zoning Commission on June 15 discussed required amendments to town zoning prompted by PA25-1, a legislative change that alters parking requirements and other provisions. Planner SN reported spending fiscal-year time on application form revisions and pausing that work to prepare the PA25-1 regulation amendments; SN will present an explanatory PowerPoint at the commission’s July 20 meeting and the commission scheduled a public hearing on the proposed amendments for August 17.
Commissioners acknowledged the town may not be formally in compliance by the July 1 effective date but said they intended to review the law and prepare amendments for adoption; application revisions will be resumed following adoption of the PA25-1 amendments. Commissioners also agreed to begin drafting rules for farm accessory uses (events) and to meet with local farmers as part of that process. The commission briefly discussed the possibility of holding a special meeting during the summer but took no action.
In other business the board noted the solicitation for a Plan of Conservation and Development consultant remains to be posted; commissioners said the RFP should be posted as soon as possible and that, if hired promptly, a consultant could begin work by Labor Day. No votes were taken on the PA25-1 amendments at this meeting.
