The Skyline City Council accepted the December treasurers report and approved payment of bills during its Jan. 13 meeting, officials said.
City Treasurer Lon Whitehead presented the December numbers: receipts of $80,015.74, payables of $163,556.78, and a total fund balance of $917,852.19. Whitehead also reported that $232,086.40 remains earmarked for the Water Tower/Pump House project. Councilmember Michelle Kotila moved to accept the treasurers report and to pay the bills; Councilmember Steve Romnes seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
During public forum, resident Nancy Kluck raised a question about who should be placing the city garbage cans; she and her husband have been doing the task. The council thanked them and indicated they will continue to manage the task for now. Janet Nelson of the Skyline Cooperative reported that traffic observed at Vetter Park was contractors working on a residents pumphouse project, and addressed concerns about a chlorine smell in the water by saying the water is safe to drink and that the odor should resolve on its own. Nelson also said a plastics-to-bench program is progressing steadily toward its first bench, and she reminded the council that the RV/trailer ordinance requires placement on a permanent surface.
Other departmental updates: Samantha Erickson (newly announced city clerk) will mail reminders to residents with accounts more than 90 days past due; Water Department updates to the pumphouse are complete and staff are monitoring daily, reported Councilmember Steve Romnes; Street Department head Eric Manske was absent and reported no items; Councilmember Michelle Kotila said she is seeking grant opportunities to update Vetter Park, and Joanne Boettcher reported she has begun preparing a Small Community Climate Resilience grant for water infrastructure planning (listed as the MPCA grant opportunity in the agenda).
The council voted unanimously to approve the meeting agenda and amended December minutes pending wage-increase information from Treasurer Lon Whitehead. The council adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
