Oconee County Council authorized three intra-budget transfers to address immediate operational shortfalls and staffing needs.
Solid Waste requested a $16,000 transfer to pay for professional brush grinding services after the county-owned grinder required maintenance and repairs. Council approved transferring funds from an unused Solicitor salary account to cover the cost; motion carried 5–0.
The Treasurer’s Office received approval to transfer $10,000 from a salary line to a professional-services line to hire two temporary employees through a staffing agency (Staffmark), allowing the office to evaluate two strong candidates and reduce pre-employment costs while preparing for an anticipated retirement.
Vehicle Maintenance received approval to transfer $20,000 from the salaries line into overtime to cover a negative overtime balance of $13,291.89 and to fund overtime through the remainder of Fiscal Year 2025–2026; staff cited inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Council approved both motions 5–0.
Meeting minutes record that the Administrator’s authority to transfer funds without council approval had been exceeded and that the transfers were budget-neutral and funded from existing surplus salary accounts in the cited departments.
