Yorba Linda Water District reports quick repair of 8-inch break, previews Kellogg Drive upgrades

Director Trudy de Roche of the Yorba Linda Water District told the City Council that crews responded within minutes to an eight-inch water main break on Rose Drive north of Yorba Linda Boulevard and isolated the line. "It took 8 valves for us to close in order to completely shut down the water," she said, adding that repairs, flushing and restoration were completed within eight hours.

De Roche said several homes and a few businesses lost service while crews worked and that district staff coordinated with the city, Orange County Fire Authority and the county sheriff during the response. She said customer-service staff followed up with known affected residents to provide claim paperwork and insurance contacts.

Looking ahead, de Roche described a coordinated project on Kellogg Drive: replacing about 1,100 feet of 6-inch water main with a 10-inch main to increase fire flows and upgrading a sewer line on Kellogg from Paseo De Grace to Crest Hill Drive to address capacity. "We won't start construction until after school is out," she said; most disruptive work will occur during the summer and limited work will continue into March 2027, the director said.

Mayor Carlos Rodriguez thanked the water district for swift public communication following the break and noted local media coverage of the event. The council did not take any formal action on the update but asked staff to continue coordination with the district and to provide follow-up technical details as they become available.
