City Manager Chris Lovell told council members he plans to present an ordinance change to reduce the separation requirement between alcohol-selling establishments and schools or daycares from 200 yards to 100 yards so the city code mirrors state law. Lovell said the change is being scheduled for a first reading on Feb. 3, 2026.
Lovell framed the recommendation as an alignment of local ordinance language with state requirements; he did not present final ordinance text at the workshop and no council vote occurred. Staff will bring the ordinance forward for the announced first reading on Feb. 3.
