Superintendent says start of school was smooth; ASU honors district Early College work

Superintendent Lizette Esparza reported a smooth opening week for Gadsden Elementary and staff presented a plaque from Arizona State University’s ASU Helios Educational Excellence program honoring the district’s Early College contributions.
Superintendent Lizette Esparza told the Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 Governing Board on Aug. 13 that the district’s first five days of the 2024–25 school year proceeded smoothly and that extracurricular activities begin Aug. 14, 2024.
At the meeting, Homero Chavez of Arizona State University’s ASU Helios Educational Excellence program presented a plaque and certificate recognizing the district’s contributions to students’ postsecondary achievement through the Early College Program and thanked board members for their support. "[The district has] made outstanding contributions to the postsecondary achievements of students through the Early College Program," Chavez said while presenting the recognition to the board.
Associate Superintendent Lina Galvan also updated the board on online school enrollment and said the district is conducting a vote to select an online-school mascot. Board members received reports on school opening routines, PBIS expectations, and procedures for staff and students during the early days of the term.
The board did not take contested action on these items; recognitions and updates were provided as informational reports during the regular meeting. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2024.
