Gadsden Elementary Governing Board unanimously approves Proposition 301 plan, online school and multiple personnel items

The Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 Governing Board met July 24, 2024, at the district administration office in San Luis and approved a set of routine and programmatic items by unanimous votes.
The board voted 4-0 to adopt the district's Proposition 301 Pay for Performance Plan for fiscal year 2024-25 after HR Director Rosy Ballesteros told members that the Arizona Department of Education requires annual board approval of the plan.
The board also approved the opening and operation of the district's online school for the 2024-25 school year. Superintendent Lizette Esparza said the State Board of Education previously approved the program to open for 2024-25 and Associate Superintendent Lina Galvan reported 12 students were enrolled so far. Esparza told the board the district will not promote or advertise the online school, that enrolled students must follow the district's standards of conduct, and that Mrs. Julian will monitor online students.
Members approved the Governing Board goals for the 2024-25 fiscal year and authorized travel to the 48th Annual School Law Conference in Scottsdale (Sept. 4-6, 2024) to allow district leaders to attend legal training. The board selected Rosa Varela as its delegate and Luis Marquez as alternate for the Arizona School Boards Association delegate assembly on Sept. 7, 2024.
A series of personnel items were considered and approved unanimously: ratification/new hires (lists 1-8), resignations (lists 1-3), personnel transfers (lists 1-10), and contract releases (lists 1-2). The minutes record the motions and seconders for each personnel action; specific names on the personnel lists were summarized in the board packet and ratified as presented.
Procedural items at the start of the meeting included the Pledge of Allegiance led by Governing Board Member Rosa Varela, roll call confirming President Luis Marquez, Clerk Tadeo De La Hoya, and Members Liliana Arroyo and Rosa Varela were present, and approval of the meeting agenda. Superintendent Esparza also briefed members about a recent Data Summit at Ed Pastor and invited board members to attend New Teacher Induction sessions scheduled for July 25-26 as part of back-to-school planning.
The board set its next regular meeting for Aug. 13, 2024, at the district office and adjourned at 12:03 p.m.
