Gadsden board approves superintendent performance pay, appoints interim principal and ratifies personnel

The Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 Governing Board approved several personnel actions at its July 9 meeting, including a $3,000 performance payment for Superintendent Lizette Esparza for the 2023''2024 school year (the meeting transcript reads "202-2024").
The board moved into executive session at 6:21 p.m. under Arizona statute ARS §38-431.03(A)(1) to discuss employment matters and returned to open session at 7:14 p.m. After the session, Governing Board Clerk Tadeo De La Hoya moved to approve the superintendent's performance pay; President Luis Marquez seconded and the measure passed 5''0''on a recorded vote.
Superintendent Lizette Esparza told the board that a committee of 13'including leadership team members, principals, the associate superintendent and the superintendent'conducted principal interviews on June 4 and recommended Silvia Vega for appointment as interim principal at Gadsden School. The board approved Ms. Silvia Vega as interim principal and directed the administration to return to the board when the interim appointment ends or to seek renewal as appropriate.
The board also ratified new employee appointments and approved transfers and salary changes for certified and classified staff as presented; motions were approved unanimously.
