Council approves vendor contracts, qualifying fees and GMA retirement plan

At its Jan. 13, 2025 meeting the Mayor and Council approved several administrative items including vendor contracts, qualifying fees for the 2025 election cycle, a retirement plan and bank account signatory updates.
The council voted to approve a list of recurring vendor contracts for 2025 as a single package. Danny Peed made the motion with Brandon Hunter seconding; the minutes list Mayor Fred Waller, Hiram Couch, Tommy Beeland and Hannah Sloan as voting in favor. Vendors approved as part of the package include Public Service Telephone; Springbrook (QS1/PubliQ); Xerox; GFL Environment; American Tank Company; ERA (Environmental Resource Agency); J&T Generators; Still Waters Engineering; Watkins and Associates LLC; SSI; NEOS; Utility Management Services; and Flock Safety.
Councilmembers adopted qualifying fees mandated by the State of Georgia: $36 for council candidates and $72 for mayoral candidates. The motion was made by Danny Peed and seconded by Brandon Hunter; the minutes record Mayor Fred Waller, Tommy Beeland, Hiram Couch and Hannah Sloan voting in favor.
The council also approved the city’s participation in the GMA retirement plan (noted in the minutes as GMEBS/GMA). The motion passed on a recorded vote after being moved by Danny Peed and seconded by Brandon Hunter.
Danny Peed moved to approve all active bank accounts on file at Georgia Community Bank; Hannah Sloan seconded and the motion passed. Georgia Community Bank requested that the mayor, mayor pro‑tem, city clerk and assistant city clerk appear to sign new 2025 signature cards.
The meeting ended after a motion to adjourn passed; the minutes show the meeting adjourned at 6:44 p.m.
