Boswell police and fire give safety updates; residents announce community events and needs

Marshal Michael Marquess opened department updates at the Aug. 12 Boswell town meeting, reminding motorists that school resumes this week and urging caution around bus stops and student drivers. Marquess said he completed online training on ChatGPT and other AI applications for law enforcement and encouraged residents to report concerns so they can be investigated.
Kyle Brost of the Fire Department said a portrait fundraiser is under way to raise funds for gear purchases and that bay doors will be installed next week; he also reported that a recent Water Fun Day was a community success. The minutes list Water & Street Superintendent Jim Turner and Wastewater Superintendent Travis Barrett as not present.
Residents used the meeting to raise community needs and events. Bethany Abbott said, "Back to School Bash on August 1st was a success," and announced that the food pantry is normally open the first and third Saturdays of each month and will hold a special session Thursday, Aug. 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. She also noted that Restoring Hope will host a Ruck on Sept. 27 for mental-health awareness and veterans, with a mapped route through town.
Linda Gibson asked that lights in front of the community center be cleaned and bulbs replaced. Louise Furr received permission to hang a rotary flag beneath the American flag on the pole; she also asked about park-fence repairs, and the clerk reported requesting three quotes but that local companies do not stock the fence style in question.
Debbie Wesley thanked organizers and emergency services for the Boswell Street Fest and announced a Harvest Music Festival on Oct. 12 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Farmers & Merchants Bank and the Free Methodist Church.
