Bolton Fire Commission approves Bruce Dixon as fire chief and Pete Morra as deputy

Chairman John Morianos convened the Bolton Fire Commission on April 22, 2019, and the commission voted to approve nominations naming Bruce Dixon as fire chief and Pete Morra as deputy fire chief.
The commission formally approved the nominations on a voice vote recorded as unanimous after Chairman John Morianos presented a memo from Chip White recommending the appointments and a motion to approve was offered and seconded. The minutes record the motion as passed (V.U.).
In communications from the chief, Fire Chief Bruce Dixon reported that the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department responded to 36 emergency calls since the previous meeting, including a mulch fire on Westview Drive that slightly involved a home, two motor vehicle accidents and numerous medical calls. Chief Dixon also reported upcoming DOT testing for Truck 134, ET 334 and Rescue 134, and that Tanker 234 had been DOT tested earlier in the month; hose and ladder testing is scheduled for May.
Chief Dixon said the department completed operations-level hazardous materials training with both classroom instruction and a practical drill at Bolton High School. He noted a live-burn demonstration is scheduled for June 2, 2019, and thanked the community for supporting a recent flower sale. The department’s annual banquet is May 5, 2019, with the annual meeting on May 6, 2019.
The Fire Marshal’s report summarized inspections of two gas stations, ongoing inspections at 890 Boston Turnpike, attendance at a Windham County meeting, and participation in a Connecticut Sprinkler Coalition conference call. The marshal also described a planned live-burn demonstration intended to show differences between structures with and without sprinklers, and discussed the Deputy Fire Marshal appointment — the reappointment is due in July 2019 — and an IT program that must be installed at the firehouse.
On old business, Commission member Chris Moquin asked for an update on the Fire Marshal job description; the minutes record discussion but no formal action. The commission set its next meeting for Monday, May 20, 2019, and adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
