Police chief reports festival coverage support, background check progress and policy updates

At the June 25 meeting Police Chief David Pernice reviewed the May 2024 police report and gave several operational updates.
Chief Pernice said he had checked with neighboring agencies about fundraising for their recent golf scrambles — Corry reported about $16,000 raised; Warren reported about $18,000 to $20,000. He told the council that Erie County Detectives will provide funding for overtime and supply 2–3 officers from the Erie County Courthouse to increase coverage for the upcoming French Creek Festival; he also said he has requested additional coverage from Corry PSP but had not yet received a response.
Chief Pernice said a Civil Service background check he is completing should be finished by July 5, 2024. He reported he is updating policies in Lexipol and removing policies that are no longer needed; those changes are subject to solicitor review before final adoption.
