Truman plans to close wading pool next season amid repair and staffing challenges

Truman officials reported Aug. 19 that the city's wading pool is deteriorating and likely will remain closed next season while the city focuses resources on preserving the main pool.
Pool manager Wayne Wiederhoeft told the council that vendors have not responded to requests to examine and fill cracks in the main pool and that schematics showing underground layout are unavailable. Staffing for lifeguards and attendants also remains a concern. Given those constraints, councilors opted to plan for closure of the wading pool next year and to concentrate available maintenance resources on the larger pool while staff continue seeking contractors.
No formal vote was recorded to re-open the wading pool; staff will continue outreach to pool contractors and report back to council on repair options and cost estimates.
