Residents tell council repeated street flooding has sent water into basements

At the start of the Aug. 5 meeting, three residents told the Truman City Council that repeated street flooding at Central and 2nd Street South has left water in basements after recent heavy rains.
Jason Nickerson, Kyle Liford and Caitlyn Carlson each described flooding and basement water. Street Superintendent John Bosshart explained that storm runoff in the area flows into a single storm line and that the system can take time to catch up during heavy rains. Bosshart said if water is entering basements from street flooding it could indicate an illegal connection to the storm sewer system. He told the council the catch basin in the area will be cleaned again to ensure it flows freely.
The council did not make an immediate policy decision at the meeting but recorded the complaint for follow-up and directed the superintendent to perform the basin cleaning and further investigation if needed. The issue will remain on the council’s radar for any additional remedies or required property-level corrective actions.
