Truman council approves transfers totaling $237,106.58 to support Jones Subdivision and housing study

The Truman City Council on Aug. 19 unanimously approved two fund-transfer resolutions to support continued development activity and pay a housing-study balance.
Resolution 2024-34 moved $233,080.58 from the Public Works New Streets Reserve into the Residential Development Reserve to cover costs tied to the Jones Subdivision. Resolution 2024-32 transferred $4,026 from the EDA fund to the Residential Development Reserve to pay the balance of a housing study. Councilor Patty Truax moved both measures; Councilor Brian Nickerson seconded the transfers. The motions passed on unanimous voice votes.
The transfers follow a report from Bolton & Menk estimating an engineering cost overrun of roughly $20,000 for the Jones Subdivision. Mayor Jake Ebert said he was concerned that costs could increase despite apparent inactivity during bad weather and asked why Lot 7 was not finished and ready for development like the other lots. Engineer Troy Nemmers said he would investigate the Lot 7 issue, request additional fill, and look further into the projected cost overrun.
Council did not revise the transfer amounts at the meeting. The resolutions authorize the transfers from identified reserves, and staff will record the changes in the city’s financial accounts.
