Council approves IBEW Letters of Understanding adding public works superintendent and wage updates

The Truman City Council approved three Letters of Understanding (LOUs) with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) that change classifications and wages for city employees.
Utility Foreman Brent Brown summarized the LOUs: they would add a public works superintendent position to the contract, create a public works maintenance classification intended to allow hiring into the lineman progression, and update wage scales for administrative positions. Brown said existing employees will be placed on the new wage scales at or around, but not less than, their current wages; reviews will be scheduled to determine precise placement.
Councilor Ron Kelley moved and Councilor Chris Mosloski seconded approval of the LOUs. The motion passed with three ayes and one nay (Councilor Patty Truax). A special meeting was scheduled for Aug. 20 to conduct employee reviews tied to placement on the updated scales.
The council did not adopt additional changes to benefit or staffing levels at this meeting. The city attorney will be consulted on cost and liability questions raised separately in conversation with the Baseball Association earlier in the meeting.
