Middletown council, redevelopment commission back Holic LLC property plan; approve dispatcher promotion and contractor payment

At its Dec. 6 meeting, the Middletown Town Council and Redevelopment Commission unanimously adopted a joint resolution supporting Holic LLC’s purchase and redevelopment of a long-vacant industrial property, approved a dispatcher promotion and authorized a $52,751.49 payment to Graves Plumbing for the water treatment plant replacement project.
Middletown — The Middletown Town Council and the Middletown Redevelopment Commission met jointly Dec. 6 and unanimously approved a resolution supporting Holic LLC’s acquisition and redevelopment of a long-vacant industrial property at 710 Norfleet Drive.
Tonio Torres, who identified himself as the owner of Holic Foods, gave a short presentation on his hot-sauce business and explained why he wants to purchase the property, which the record notes has been vacant for nearly five years. Clerk-Treasurer Drew Cooper then read RESOLUTION 2016-1206-01, a joint resolution of the council and redevelopment commission supporting Holic LLC’s acquisition and development of the improved industrial real property.
Donita Chambless moved to adopt the resolution; Betty Riley seconded. The Town Council voted to adopt the resolution unanimously. The Middletown Redevelopment Commission, which met jointly with the council, also voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
The council approved a personnel recommendation from the dispatch office to promote Dispatcher Cora Betteridge from Grade 1 to Grade 2. The Dispatch Supervisor recommended the change; Dave Wagner moved to approve the promotion and Betty Riley seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Council members also authorized payment to Graves Plumbing for work on the Water Treatment Plant Replacement Project. Dave Wagner moved to authorize Clerk-Treasurer Cooper to pay Graves Plumbing $52,751.49 as per pay estimate #9; Donita Chambless seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, Town Council President Jake Smith directed Town Attorney Joel Harvey to send a letter to the owners of the Fadely’s Tavern building warning that the property is in disrepair and that further decay could cause damage to the town’s Civic Center, for which the owners would be liable.
There were no recorded objections to any motion. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
