Spring Grove pool managers recommend modest fee increases and new chairs after busy lesson season

Aquatic Center managers Kelsey Bratland and Amelia Solum briefed the council on the summer swim season and proposed several operational and fee changes.
The managers reported 576 private lessons and 55 group lessons this season. They said the pool experienced fewer general swimmers but a high number of private-lesson registrations; managers noted more than 200 parents/families registered quickly when lesson fees were briefly raised in error at the start of the season and then lowered after the mistake was discovered.
Bratland and Solum recommended replacing several broken metal chairs with rubber-coated chairs that appear to last longer; they reported having about 30 chairs currently but said the pool could use about 50. They recommended raising admission by $1 next season and increasing lesson fees by $5: group lessons from $40 to $45 and private lessons from $60 to $65. Council Member Heather Edgington said she was concerned that higher fees could price out families with multiple children or households with limited ability to pay. Clerk/Administrator Jana Elton said there are grants the city can pursue and that Houston County may have assistance programs; the council asked Elton to gather more information to share before next season.
Bratland indicated she may be interested in returning as manager next season. The council deferred final fee decisions for further consideration, with the item to be revisited in January.
