Spring Grove council approves BDPI grant paperwork, safety policy updates and equipment purchases

The Spring Grove City Council on Oct. 15 unanimously approved a package of administrative measures to advance a state BDPI grant application, update workplace and social media policies, and purchase hearing-protection headphones for utility workers, according to meeting minutes.
City Clerk/Administrator Jana Elton told the council the Conflict-of-Interest Disclosure required to submit the Business Development Public Infrastructure (BDPI) grant and Resolution 24-47 had been prepared to support curb, gutter and paving work by the EDA lots. Council Member Trent Turner moved to approve signing the disclosure and later moved to accept Resolution 24-47; both motions were seconded by Council Member Karen Folstad and carried with all members voting in favor.
The council also voted to update the city’s AWAIR workplace-safety policy to list the new Safety Coordinator, Stephanie Jaster. Council Member Karen Folstad moved the change and Council Member Trent Turner seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the council approved an amendment to the Social Media Policy to permit livestreaming council meetings on YouTube. Mayor Saundra Solum had previously asked staff to investigate livestream options; Council Member Michael Hagen moved to add livestreaming to the policy, and Council Member Trent Turner seconded.
On a procurement item, Utility Director John Sylling recommended Bluetooth headphones with noise-reduction ratings so utility workers can both complete required online safety training and use them as hearing protection on the job. Elton estimated the per-unit cost at about $264 plus shipping. Council Member Michael Hagen moved to approve the purchase; Council Member Karen Folstad seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

What this means
