POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. — The Powhatan County Planning Commission voted April 7 to approve the pattern book for the Foundry Country Inn, a private inn proposed at Pounders Golf Club, following a staff presentation and brief commissioner discussion.
Staff said the project sits on a 232-acre parcel previously rezoned to Crossroads and that the proposed inn — described in the application as roughly 3,526 square feet with eight rooms — will serve club members and guests and will not be open to the general public. The building is set back approximately 450 feet from the nearest road and will be heavily screened by landscaping, staff said.
The planner presenting the item (identified in the meeting as Sean) noted the design follows an American cottage/craftsman style and that the applicant clarified the exterior color would be a gray similar to an existing on‑site lodge rather than the brown shown in initial materials. Landscaping and screening for HVAC equipment and service areas were discussed as part of the presentation.
After a motion to approve the pattern book, the commission took a roll-call vote: Commissioners Hall, Bowen, Wynol, Hughes and Hatcher each voted yes, producing a 5‑0 approval.
The approval is for the pattern-book/design; subsequent site-plan review and any permitting will determine final construction and timing.
