Lee Sullivan reported that, acting through the Southern Maine Invasive Plant Coalition, he traveled to Augusta to meet with the Board of Pesticides Control and confirmed that current regulations allow volunteers to manually apply pesticides on town property under the supervision of a licensed applicator. Sullivan said the meeting “successfully uncovered regulations that allow this already.”
The commission said it will arrange training for volunteers with licensed applicator Steve Brook, who has worked with the commission previously. The training will prepare volunteers to perform manual pesticide applications on town property with appropriate supervision and oversight. The commission did not adopt new local rules at the meeting; members described this as confirming state-level regulatory allowances and planning training to comply with those regulations.
