Commission advances Rogers Pond habitat plan; Larkspur to design Rotary Park landscaping

At the April 22 meeting the Town of Kennebunk Conservation Commission advanced several habitat-restoration initiatives centered on Rogers Pond and Rotary Park. Lee Sullivan reported that he met with a landscaper from Larkspur and Kim Carter, the town’s Public Services Director, and that Larkspur will prepare a design for Rotary Park’s landscaping.
Commission members agreed to delay presenting a Rogers Pond native-plant policy to the town while they consider whether a single policy should cover all town properties. Jennifer Shack and Lee Sullivan will meet with a forestry mulcher on the 23rd to determine whether mulching services are appropriate for Rogers Pond management. The commission also discussed state setback regulations that could affect parking locations along rivers and whether those setbacks would apply at Rogers Pond.
To gather user input, the commission will develop a survey about how people use Rogers Pond and what they value there. Members discussed surveying attendees in person at the town’s Migratory Fish Day event on May 23 and scheduled a community work day at Rogers Pond for June 20. No binding policy was adopted at the meeting; these items remain in planning and will return for further review.
