Granby nonprofits and businesses secure grants and make donations for library, historic preservation and public safety

At the May 4 meeting the board heard multiple brief presentations and acknowledgements of grant-funded programs and donations supporting cultural, educational and public-safety needs.
David Roberts, Executive Director of the Salmon Brook Historical Society, updated the board on leadership and facility improvements and announced a two-year historic property maintenance grant program offering up to ten $10,000 grants to support preservation of historic properties in Granby. Roberts also outlined America 250 initiatives including historic signage and a town time capsule project.
Library Director Amber Wyzik reported that the Granby Education Foundation awarded a $1,960 Maker Lab grant to support summer Maker Space tuition programs coordinated through the library, and that the Granby Library Association and Friends of the Granby Public Library are funding a summer intern position at a cost of $5,950; Wyzik is proceeding with the hiring process.
The board also noted community donations: Route 10 Tire donated a bunny costume valued at approximately $500 for Granby Police Department outreach events; and the Fire Marshal's office, via a grant application coordinated by the Assistant Fire Marshal, secured 50 Kidde smoke detectors that will be distributed and installed by the Fire Marshal’s office for residents in need.
Board members expressed appreciation for the grants and donations and noted they support summer programming, historic preservation, and resident safety efforts.
