Granby board receives bonding package for six capital projects, sets steps toward September referendum

Town Manager Michael P. Walsh presented the town’s initial bonding proceedings package to the Board of Selectmen on May 4, formally initiating the statutory steps required for a bond referendum.

Walsh told the board the package covers six proposed capital projects recommended by the Capital Project Prioritization Advisory Committee (CPPAC): a library renovation and expansion; middle school repairs; high school athletic facility improvements; Salmon Brook Park pickleball courts and restroom facilities; and sewer pump maintenance. He said referral to the Board of Finance, scheduling a town meeting, and setting a referendum date are next steps, with a tentative referendum planned for September 2026.

The board took no final vote on project approvals at the May 4 meeting; receiving the materials begins the statutory process the town must follow before a referendum. The board and staff noted they will hold additional public presentations and outreach as project details are finalized and legal processes proceed.

First Selectman Mark H. Fiorentino also reported that town representatives and the developer continue coordination on a proposed solar project and that the town expects an upcoming filing with the Siting Council; the solar update signals further public outreach and informational sessions will follow as the solar proposal moves through permitting.

The next procedural steps listed by the town are referral to the Board of Finance for review, scheduling a town meeting to present ballot questions, and establishing final referendum logistics and dates. No vote on bond authorization occurred on May 4; the board simply received and entered the materials into the record to start the process.
