Truman council hires mosquito control, sets camping and street-sweeping fees before Truman Days

At its July 15 meeting the Truman City Council authorized pre-event mosquito control before Truman Days and set several fees related to city services and the upcoming celebration.
Superintendent John Bosshart told councilors that Mosquito Control of Iowa can implement mosquito control prior to Truman Days for $5,000. Councilor Patty Truax moved to hire Mosquito Control of Iowa for this season; Chris Mosloski seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Councilor Brian Nickerson said he is pursuing certification and equipment to do mosquito control in the future but the council agreed to contract for this year.
The council also added street department charges to the fee schedule, approving $150 per hour for the sweeper and $100 per hour for a truck when providing street-sweeping services to other cities. Finally, the council approved an overflow camping plan for Truman Days, charging $20 per day or $30 for the weekend; Truax agreed to monitor campers and collect fees because the area cannot be reserved or paid through the city website.
The council did not specify billing mechanics or longer-term policy for mosquito control beyond this season’s contract.
