Clermont officials to meet mosque leaders after Aug. 9 gathering prompted noise and parking complaints

Town of Clermont officials said an Aug. 9 gathering at Sabeel'ul Faoz Mosque drew multiple resident complaints about loud music, purported incendiary statements over a loudspeaker and illegal street parking that blocked access on Tansel and risked emergency response.

Committee members described a high number of irate residents and flagged illegal parking on Tansel, which they said could hinder emergency vehicles and residents’ ability to enter or exit properties. The committee agreed on three near-term responses: secure additional towing capacity to clear blocked streets quickly when needed; have two councilors and Police Chief Steve Dulworth meet mosque leadership to discuss preventing future incidents and address residents' concerns; and review a draft municipal code revision to prohibit street parking where it would block normal traffic from Crawfordsville Road to the railroad tracks.

Why it matters: illegal parking that obstructs emergency access creates a public-safety hazard. The committee characterized the incident as a local public-safety and neighborhood quality-of-life issue that requires both enforcement and community engagement.

No formal enforcement action was taken at the meeting. The committee assigned follow-up to Chief Dulworth and Council President Sue Topf to arrange a meeting with Masjid Sabeel'ul Faoz leadership and to verify municipal-code language with Town Attorney Robert Lutz. The committee will monitor outcomes and review any proposed code changes at a future meeting.
