Chrisney council closes budget hearing, approves MVH appropriation, salary ordinance, apprenticeship hire and gas contract

The Town of Chrisney council closed a public hearing on the proposed 2026 budget with no one speaking at the Sept. 8 meeting at Chrisney Town Hall. Council member Greg moved to close the hearing and Council member Chris seconded; the motion carried.
The meeting’s most consequential votes were procedural but immediate. Clerk Kim introduced Ordinance #2025-7 to appropriate an additional $17,000 to the Motor Vehicle Highway (MVH) Fund; Greg moved to adopt the ordinance, Chris seconded, and the motion carried. The ordinance increases available MVH money for road and maintenance work, the council said.
The council also passed Ordinance #2025-8, which fixes salaries for elected officials and town employees effective Sept. 25, 2025. Kim presented the ordinance; Greg moved and Chris seconded the measure, which passed by unanimous voice vote as recorded in the minutes.
On personnel and workforce development, the council approved hiring Michael Forler for the Indiana Rural Water Alliance apprenticeship position, pending a clean background check, a pre-employment drug screen and a signed employment agreement. Kim said Forler will begin employment on Sept. 15 and that the official Apprentice Program start date is Jan. 1, 2026.
On utilities, John presented a five-year natural gas transportation contract with TransCanada/ANR that authorizes Symmetry to act as the town’s nominating agent for gas nominations. Greg moved and Chris seconded approval for John to sign necessary documents; the motion carried.
Minutes record the motions as “carried” but do not supply individual vote tallies. Where vote counts are not specified in the record, the council’s action is reported here as “approved” per the meeting minutes.
The council approved routine financial reports for July and set its next meeting for Oct. 6, 2025, at 7 p.m. The meeting adjourned thereafter.
