Centerville's fire department reported its September activity and sought council approval for station improvements during the Oct. 14 meeting.
A fire representative (Speaker 7) told the council the department handled 59 runs in September, including 41 medical calls. The representative said a trial of staffing the station from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. has reduced response times substantially: "I'll say 99% of the rooms that we take... we've been out for 2 minutes," the representative said.
The department thanked a local volunteer, Gary Finnick, for installing new radios on trucks and noted the department is evaluating an records and reporting software package. The representative also described recent renovations to the station meeting room and proposed future kitchen and cabinet updates.
On equipment, the department presented an estimate from Affordable Heating and Air to replace the station's air‑conditioning‑only unit with a heating/cooling system. The estimate presented in the meeting was $9,400. The council approved a motion to fund the HVAC replacement from the department's donation account.
The council also heard a community proposal from a resident and nurse specialist (Speaker 4) to host periodic movie nights in the park for children and families using donated equipment; she said it would cost the town nothing to host the events and asked council support.
