Fernandina Beach golf staff report steady rounds, planned equipment deliveries and minor FSGA rating changes

City golf staff presented January operational and financial metrics and maintenance updates at the Feb. 27 advisory board meeting.
Jeffrey Biggers said the course recorded 2,489 rounds in January (about an 80-round daily average) and total course revenue of $72,168; those figures excluded driving-range revenue because the range was offline. Biggers said the driving range had averaged roughly $10,000 in gross revenues in the Januaries of 2023 and 2024 and that last year the range grossed about $140,000 overall.
Maintenance work highlighted by staff included removal of canopy debris, stump grinding, and coordination with Streets Department on clearing and drainage in several holes. Equipment updates noted that two greens mowers are expected in May and a Southco roller was due for delivery the next day.
Biggers also reviewed an FSGA rating completed Feb. 11 and 13. Preliminary results showed minor yardage and slope adjustments compared with 2013; most slopes across courses are trending slightly downward according to the FSGA reviewer, and the association's rating changes were expected to take effect March 4. Staff said the changes should not materially affect players' posted handicaps.
Staff encouraged advisory board members to attend a golf workshop the following Tuesday (5 p.m.) to review course conditions and budget items before the commission meeting.
