Indiana Senator Daryl Schmitt visited the Chrisney Town Council on Oct. 6 to share the 2025 tax and fiscal policy majority resource handbook produced by the Senate Majority Fiscal Office and to discuss proposed property tax legislation.
Schmitt told the council the stated goals of the legislation are to lower property taxes, simplify the tax code, increase transparency and move more decision-making authority to local governments. "The reasoning behind the changes, beyond lowering property taxes, is simplifying the tax code with greater transparency while delivering decision making to local governments," Schmitt said during his presentation.
Council members thanked the senator and indicated they would reach out if they had additional questions; the transcript records no formal council action in response to the presentation.
