Chrisney eyes SRF funds, schedules smoke testing and manhole inspections for wastewater system repairs

John, a staff member, told the council Aug. 4 that smoke testing and manhole inspections were scheduled for the week as part of efforts to locate points of groundwater intrusion into the town sewer system.
"Smoke testing and manhole inspections were scheduled for this week," John said, and he said the town hopes to use some remaining State Revolving Fund (SRF) monies to add improvements that would help locate and fix inflow and infiltration. He listed a camera system to inspect sewer lines, manhole insert covers to provide a better seal and targeted repairs as items to submit with Drew for SRF approval.
Council discussion focused on using existing grant funding to cap the project and to prioritize fixes that reduce standing-water intrusion during heavy rains. The minutes do not record a formal vote on the SRF submissions; John said he will work with Drew to prepare project submittals.
If approved by SRF, the work would aim to reduce groundwater inflow into the system and improve the town’s ability to inspect and maintain sewer lines.
